Volunteer Highlight: Meet Lisa Sink

Who is Lisa Sink? She is the Director and Clinical Supervisor of the University YMCA's La Línea Community Helpline and oversees the cases of people in need of advocacy.

Created by an AmeriCorps volunteer in 2010, La Línea is a line of support for the community by connecting people with resources, advocacy counseling and in promoting justice for everyone. Today, Lisa Sink helps La Línea increase the linkages and collaboration between community-based services and gives University of Illinois students and other local community members the chance to learn about their surrounding community and give them a chance to get involved. Ms. Sink has been with the Y's La Linea Helpline program for just over two years.

Lisa brings decades of life experience to her work. She became a social worker after a career as a Spanish teacher and establishing her family. Ms. Sink received her MSW from the School of Social Work at the U. of I. in 2010. Previously, she earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Spanish, and an M.A. in the Teaching of Spanish, both from the U. of I. Lisa has been involved in a number of community projects including Vida Alegre (the Happy Life), Group Therapy model to provide treatment (in Spanish) for depressed Latina mothers. Ms. Sink earned her LSW from the State of Illinois in March 2011 and continues to work on the Vida Alegre project.
